Sleep Deprivation, “Forbidden Foods” & What Pizza Knows About Flexibility/Mobility (That You Don’t!)

Welcome to your weekly roundup – The Optimized Gentleman’s 5 Minute Optimization Newsletter

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be tailoring it to your ideas and popular recommendations… Kinda like a great suit.

Remember, as an O.G., you should be monitoring your sleep, movement activities, and nutrition. This way, you can stay FOCUSED building your income streams, social skills and position – and investing money (into assets) and time (into your future).

This week’s roundup will include the usual three topics – sleep, movement, and nutrition.

Wanna know 7 ways sleep deprivation screws up your normal brain function? So did we. We found an article showing how to tune up your sleep, and squeeze the most out of every day!

What’s the difference between mobility and flexibilityThe answer lies in … pizza? Yep, if you sit at work all day, you really cannot afford to miss this.

Time to slap some old food myths; HARD. The Guardian reveals why food intake in the U.K. (and U.S.) has been so backwards – and why some foods aren’t as bad as you thought.

OK, Gent – Let’s get CRACKIN’:

This Is Your Brain On Drugs
Sleep Deprivation:

As an O.G., your brain function is of utmost importance.

You use your sharp, calibrated brain to make money, executive decisions, and plan for your long-term future. You can’t afford to drag through your day, forgetting where you left your keys.

You’ve got places to go; things to accomplish. This is exactly why your sleep needs to be on point, helping you perform at your best.

In short, lack of sleep encourages:

– Mental health issues & stress – by increasing cortisol and stimulating depression,

Impaired cognition & memory – disturbing the hippocampus’ neurological connections,

Weight gain & increased CVD risk – like smoking and poor nutrition, sleep loss increases blood pressure, stress hormones, and risk of cardiovascular disease.

So get to bed on time and have a routine for good sleep hygiene!

What Pizza Knows About the Difference Between Mobility & Flexibility… (That You Don’t!)

This comparison is a subtle difference – and believe it or not… pizza actually holds the answer!

A runner’s magazine outlined the difference, and made an analogy to a cold pizza dough from your fridge.

Imagine you take out the dough, and want to stretch it out – to make a huuuuge pizza. That’s flexibility. With poor flexibility, you’re liable to stretch and tear cold ligaments and muscles that aren’t warmed up.

But to make it more stretchable, kneading the dough will help your flexibility efforts. That’s mobility. This article covers a ton about the differences between. And while it’s geared towards runners specifically (you may not be one), you’ll definitely get a lot out of it.

Inside, you can find 10+ very handy, easy-to-do mobility exercises that’ll warm you up, relieve pain, release tension from daily sitting, and much more!

Eggs, Meat, Dairy, Salt…
Secretly Great For You After All?

You may or may not know this…

But for decades, public health facilities in the U.S. and the U.K. have been pumping out ridiculous claims, and categorical food suggestions that don’t serve you.

For instance – the food pyramid in the states, with 6-10 servings of carbs, starches, and the like – suggesting just a few choice vegetables and fruits.

Even with its suggestion redesigns, these organizations have gotten things laughably wrong – as the science has revealed recently.

Let’s talk dairy – it can do the opposite of what you’ve probably heard; lower your risk of CVD!

How about steak? Its claims for containing carcinogens has never been proven… but low-quality, preservative-laden meats should still be avoided.

As for salt? You need some – for the sodium – but don’t cut it out!

Check out some of the busted myths in this article, and begin optimizing your nutrition reasonably, Gent.
